Gratituesday: Longer Days and Sunshine!

I absolutely dread the winter. The quickly disappearing light, colder weather, and imminent snow are enough to keep me bundled up inside and hiding from the weather under a hand-made afghan.

Every single year, right about this time, I start to get SAD. No, not sad, but Seasonal Affective Disorder. I become grumpy, restless, and lose the motivation to do anything. The mister around here gets it too, so we’re just a crabby bright and cheery bunch come mid-January, as you can imagine. We have full-spectrum light bulbs installed in our most used rooms of the house and take vitamin D supplements to help keep us tolerable, but nothing helps bring us out of the funk as much as some good, old-fashioned sunshine!

This year, the vitamins and light-bulbs seem to be helping quite a bit. I always know that spring is right around the corner when I’m able to make it home from work with the sun still peeking out from behind the Rocky Mountains.

Just the idea of spring starts to lift my spirit. Gardening, cooking, outdoor exercise, fresh berries, and all of the loveliness that comes with spring is on it’s way to brighten my soul again! Spring also brings my birthday, which is a nice added bonus (wink!). It’s absolutely my favorite time of the year, and when I feel the most motivated to get things going.

So, this Gratituesday, I’m grateful for the longer days and sunshine showing up here in the real sunshine state of Colorado! May the garden planning, outdoor jogging, and summer creation begin!
